Sunday Satsang & Feast

sunday satsang and feast from shelter to service

From Shelter to Service

The Bhakti House — Jackson, Michigan

Friday awakens.
Saturday settles.
Sunday integrates.

Sunday Satsang & Feast is where remembrance becomes relationship and relationship becomes service.

If Friday is sound and Saturday is steadiness, Sunday is offering.

Today we reflect on how chanting naturally leads to loving service.

Scriptural Foundation: Śrī Caitanya-caritāmṛta Antya-līlā 20.29

Bengali

ন ধনং ন জনং ন সুন্দরীং
কবিতাং বা জগদীশ কাময়ে ।
মম জন্মনি জন্মনীশ্বরে
ভবতাদ্ভক্তিরহৈতুকী ত্বয়ি ॥

Roman Transliteration (IAST)

na dhanaṁ na janaṁ na sundarīṁ
kavitāṁ vā jagad-īśa kāmaye
mama janmani janmanīśvare
bhavatād bhaktir ahaitukī tvayi

Translation

(Translation by His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupāda)

“O Lord of the universe, I do not desire material wealth, materialistic followers, a beautiful wife or fruitive activities described in flowery language. All I want, life after life, is unmotivated devotional service to You.”

This is the mood of Sunday.

Not wealth.
Not recognition.
Not position.

Service.

And not temporary service — but janmani janmani — birth after birth.

Supporting Scripture: Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam 1.2.6

Devanāgarī

स वै पुंसां परो धर्मो
यतो भक्तिरधोक्षजे ।
अहैतुकी अप्रतिहता
ययात्मा सुप्रसीदति ॥

Roman Transliteration (IAST)

sa vai puṁsāṁ paro dharmo
yato bhaktir adhokṣaje
ahaitukī apratihatā
yayātmā suprasīdati

Translation

(Translation by His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupāda)

“The supreme occupation [dharma] for all humanity is that by which men can attain to loving devotional service unto the transcendent Lord. Such devotional service must be unmotivated and uninterrupted to completely satisfy the self.”

Unmotivated.
Uninterrupted.

Sunday is where we practice that through community and prasāda.

Opening Kīrtan

We begin with the same melody from Friday and Saturday.

Not new.

Familiar.

Sound that has already softened the heart.

Repetition builds depth.

The Mahā Mantra

Devanāgarī

हरे कृष्ण हरे कृष्ण
कृष्ण कृष्ण हरे हरे ।
हरे राम हरे राम
राम राम हरे हरे ॥

Roman Transliteration (IAST)

Hare Kṛṣṇa Hare Kṛṣṇa
Kṛṣṇa Kṛṣṇa Hare Hare
Hare Rāma Hare Rāma
Rāma Rāma Hare Hare

Today we chant not just for ourselves — but for one another.

Sunday Teaching: From Shelter to Service

When the heart feels protected by the Holy Name, it naturally wants to give.

Service is not obligation.

It is overflow.

True bhakti expresses itself in:

• Feeding others
• Listening deeply
• Speaking gently
• Offering respect
• Serving without demand

This is how love becomes practical.

The Psychology of Devotional Community

Isolation fragments the mind.

Satsang integrates it.

Community chanting:

• Strengthens spiritual identity
• Reduces loneliness
• Regulates emotion
• Reinforces meaning
• Deepens commitment

The Holy Name shared becomes multiplied.

Reflection Questions

• Where did you feel shelter this week?
• What does service look like in your daily life?
• How can you carry this melody into Monday?

The Sunday Feast

Bhakti culminates in offering and honoring prasāda.

A simple sattvic Sunday feast may include:

Steamed rice
Yellow dal
Seasonal vegetable sabji
Fresh chutney
Halavā or laddū

Offer first.

Serve second.

Receive as mercy.

Eating becomes spiritual when gratitude leads.

Carrying the Kīrtan Forward

Friday — Learned
Saturday — Absorbed
Sunday — Offered

Now carry it into the week.

Sing while cooking.
Chant while walking.
Hum quietly in difficulty.
Offer your work.

Immersion begins in small consistency.

The Holy Name is shelter.

Service is immersion.

Community is grace.
